Nataraja or Nataraj, is the dancing form of Lord Shiva. The term ‘Nataraj’ means ‘King of Dancers’ (Sanskrit nata = dance; raja = king).
Shiva performs this dance (tandava) to destroy a dysfunctional universe and to prepare for a new universe to be created.  The location of this cosmic dance of destruction and creation is portrayed as the center of the universe (Chidambaram), but Nataraj’s dance can also take place at the center of your heart.
